Fourth Session: Opening Reception: August 9, 5-7pm

Exhibition Dates: August 8th-August 17th

Artists: Ruth Lauer | Virginia Headley Maserang | Heather Lecheler

Ruth Lauer studied at the Minneapolis School of Art and Design and lived for 10 years in Europe before moving to Austin, Texas, in 1991. Working in oil and acrylic, Ruth’s paintings celebrate community and poke fun at her own and humanity’s foibles. "I create portraits, sometimes of people, food or animals, but also of private moments in public settings. I try to portray the emotion that a memory holds, and the calm of commonplace beauty. And sometimes I just want to push color around.” She would like the paintings to evoke a personal memory or emotion for viewers. Her current paintings celebrate community pools and other Austin scenes.

Virginia Headley Maserang is a contemporary painter based in Georgetown, Texas. Her primary medium is encaustic – a combination of beeswax, damar tree resin, and pigment – but she often includes a variety of other media and collage to create layered surfaces rich with texture, emotive marks, and luminous color. Within the context of this rich visual language, her works explore intuitive conversations between abstract and representational elements. Her body of work includes 2-dimensional pieces on panel or paper, as well as 3-dimensional assemblage. Headley Maserang currently paints and teaches encaustic technique in Georgetown, Texas where she lives with her husband and two miniature schnauzers.

Heather Lecheler is a Texas native who started creating art after becoming curious about the antique drill press taking up space in her garage. Now joined by a scroll saw, paint, embroidery thread, and countless piles of scrap wood organized by a system only she understands, Heather is happiest hiding out in her crowded garage, making things.
