Artists Alicia Philley and Emily Hoyt-Weber will present their new body of paintings and sculpture--created around conversations about color, light and shadow-in their show Sketchings.

Long-time Austin artists Philley and Hoyt-Weber play with the ways we navigate visual perception through bright, abstract art made of wood, paint and steel. Each work changes subtly as viewers move around it. The artists’ collaboration has produced a body of work with surprising and intriguing relationships. Philley’s colorful compositions of curving linear elements serve as a counterpoint to Hoyt-Weber’s mathematically inspired line drawings in space.

In her recent body of work, Philley uses the meandering wood grain line on the surfaces to inform her painting compositions. Hoyt-Weber uses the wall and physical space as the ground on which her brightly painted linear geometric sculptures sit.
